July Goal: Fitness Starts in Our Mouth

Though behind in my goals for 2014, I am not going to be discouraged…part of having a healthy lifestyle is not dwelling on the bumps in the road.

The problem I have identified and plan to address this month is my diet, which consists of too many processed convenience foods and not enough planning and preparation at home.

My goal in addressing this problem for the month of July is to clean up my diet.

Over the coming months I intend to put a clean/whole food eating plan into action with the 80/20 rule. That is, 80% of the time, I will eat non-processed, whole foods that are fuel to my body, allowing wiggle room the other 20%. This will be a process, it will take patience, planning, and dedication.

Small changes being implemented this month include:

1. Food prep Sunday’s – Plan and prep breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the work week to decrease need for quick convenience foods and to ensure that meals and snacks are well balanced.

2. Protein, Fat, and Vegetable/Fruit 3 every 3 rule – Balance out each meal with a protein, fat, and vegetable and/or fruit to ensure that the body is being nourished evenly throughout the day.

3. Eat every 3-4 hrs – Incorporate 2 healthy snacks in between each of the 3 meals, being careful to not eat any later than 3hrs before you intend to go to sleep.

4. Eating out – Eating out limited to no more than 1-2x/wk…again…food should be planned out to limit the likelihood of falling back into old habits.

5. Sleep – Get no less than 7hrs a night so that your body doesn’t confuse being tired for being hungry. If you are sleeping and eating healthy, nutritious foods…your body will have energy…period.

Check back next weekend for an evaluation of how this plan worked for me!

Hello Everyone! "Integrity is not only about making commitments, but keeping them long after the mood we made the commitment in has gone. It is about decisions and actions we make on a daily basis, and that which we do when no one is watching." My name is Kavita and welcome to my holistic health and wellness blog. Not being a stranger to extreme life struggles, I have over time mastered the art of self neglect, though eagerly put others first. Now, as I near closer to entering a new chapter of my life, one day starting a family of my own...I am committed to using my knowledge of nutrition and exercise paired with my love of learning and personal growth, to make long-term changes. Lifestyle changes are not temporary, they are changes that are made little by little until life's tool box is full of resources for healthy living. When these resources are identified, implemented, and practiced...you can achieve success in anything you put your mind to. I have always wanted to be athletic, always aspired to do more than my mind led me to believe I could. Inside...without looking in the mirror or stepping on a scale...that's where I want to be a fit girl. When we find our inner fit girl, it will blossom outwards. Always having struggled with my weight and a battle of eating for comfort and immediate satisfaction, I am dedicated to using food for fuel and nourishment. The food we eat and the ways we make our bodies move must be modes for satisfaction that is on going. If you have goals, perhaps you have been setting them, you write them down on December 31st, hit it hard in the gym the first week of every year, plan your meals well during all of January...and then, something creates a hiccup in the road. So easily, your goals slip through the cracks. Follow me as I incorporate small changes on a daily, weekly, monthly, yearly basis that add up to big results. Here, our goals are dreams with deadlines. I'm a registered nurse with my Bachelors and I am confident that my nursing background, life experience, desire, and enthusiasm will propel me forward as I start this journey. If I am blessed to achieve my goals and granted the honor of helping a few others along the way, than my efforts would have been more than worth it. Please feel free to follow my blog, leave me messages, ask questions, leave advice or encouragement, and recommend innerfitgirl to your friends and family. Find and nourish your inner fit girl, true fitness starts from inside you. Best of luck!
